Health coaching

At The Performance Coach, we have always aimed to be at the forefront of coaching innovation in healthcare, and in 2011, we've launched new Health Coaching programmes with GPs and Practice Nurses.
Health coaching is an approach to working with patients which aims to increase awareness of and encourage greater responsibility for health. The application of coaching with clinical populations offers clients a friendly, effective way of
- eliciting greater awareness of health
- increasing responsibility for self-management
which can supplement the traditional medical model of education and directive advice from health professionals.
Health Coaching aims to unlock a patient's potential to improve their health by helping them to engage with the management of their health - rather than simply hear about what they should do.
About our health coaching programmes
Our three most frequently-run programmes are listed below. Our approach with all our programmes is to help participants transcend the knowing-doing-being gap. Our aim is to support people to go from “knowing” about a topic, to be able to implement new skills through “doing”, to integrate skills into their day to day practice through “being”.
- 1 day - Overview of Health Coaching Approaches: the focus of the programme is awareness raising – "knowing"
- 2 days - Introduction the Health Coaching Skills: the focus of the programme is awareness and some behaviour shift – "doing"
- 4 days - Accredited Health Coaching Programme - the focus of the programme is to assist participants to integrate a Health Coaching approach into their day-to-day practice - "being".

Quotes from programme participants
"I just wanted to say a big thank you for this fantastic course. This has been for me, the best consultation skills course I have ever been on and it was amazing to see how it can be done in the 10 minute consultation as demonstrated. I am going to feed it back to my practice so we can all put the skills into use. Thanks to you and the facilitators" - General Practitioner
“Using the coaching approach has reminded me of why I got into nursing in the first place” - Practice Nurse
“Implementing health coaching with patients in the clinical environment is very effective and I think it’s a lot more effective with some patients that what we have been trying to do” - Practice nurse
