Andrew McDowell

Approach
Andrew is a very experienced psychologist and coach with experience of working with leaders in the corporate, public and voluntary sectors from many parts of the world.
Experience
Originally trained as a psychologist in Australia, Andrew's PhD was in the area of conflict resolution. He has worked in the areas of clinical psychology and supervision, coaching, behaviour change, leadership and potential oriented psychology; and for 12 years as a Senior Lecturer in the areas of psychiatry and health.
In his academic role Andrew was involved in pioneering problem-based learning techniques in establishing the first graduate education medical programme in Australia, which now forms the basis of graduate medical education in the UK. During this period he was also a Director of his university’s international programmes, which involved business development, strategic partnership and international relations work.
Industry experience
Andrew moved to the UK in 2002, where he is currently involved in training, coaching and consultancy work with a range of leading organisations. Recent clients include:
- international NGOs such as Amnesty International, Action Aid and Water Aid
- public sector clients, such as the Department of Health, various Primary Care Trusts, environmental agencies and educational organisations
- private Sector clients including vodafone, Turner Broadcasting and ICI Dulux.
Andrew is also Director of the youth leadership NGO WYSE International, which identifies promising young leaders around the world and supports them to create change in their communities. In this role, Andrew is the organisation's representative to the United Nations.
Andrew’s expertise spans the areas of:
- leadership
- process consultation
- training and facilitation development
- coaching and organisational development.
He is particularly skilled at working with diverse groups and enjoys coaching with people who are senior managers or at board level. He has delivered training and undertaken consultancies with participants from over 100 countries in 5 different continents.
His key skills are in the design and delivery of innovative training packages that utilise a coaching approach to engage participants in collaborative experiential learning processes.
